Word Geekery #1: Goodbye

I’m having so much fun with the new dictionary application I downloaded in my iPhone that I suddenly decided to make a post about it. And I’m thinking of doing it every now and then. Kinda like having a Word of the Day post only mine is not really on daily basis. I’ll probably do it sporadically. And it depends whether I’m feeling lazy or not.  Heehee. I’m born under the sign of the bull and laziness is pretty much one of the bull’s evident trait.

Anyway for my Word Geekery Post #1, I give you the word “goodbye”. Now I know, it’s pretty much a very common word that even my almost 2 year old niece already has a grasp of what the word means. But then do you know the etymology of the word? Well that’s what I’ve learned today and that’s what made me decide to choose this word. 🙂

Did you know that the word goodbye is a contraction of the phrase “God be with ye”? No? Well, now you know. 🙂
